This year Canberra for Assange will celebrate Julian’s birthday at Commonwealth Place right on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin just beneath the flags of the the Commonwealth. 11 am in Canberra even on a winters day – should be sunny, and it is a place where families gather. It will be a friendly happy occasion where we will celebrate with balloons and cake, but also banners, leaflets and postcards. The main aim is to be a presence and witness for Julian and to educate people about Julian as they walk past and stop to chat. Depending on numbers, we may also walk across Commonwealth Bridge on the footpath nearby, with our balloons and banners. This is not a protest, there will be no speeches or chanting. We will be respecting the community as they enjoy their Sunday while reminding them that Julian and his family are a part of our community.

March 4 Julian Assange on his 51st Birthday

SUNDAY AT 11 AM – 2 PM

Commonwealth Place, Australian Capital Territory

Today our Australian award winning journalist, outstanding publisher, creator of WikiLeaks turns 51 years old. This is his 4th birthday spent locked away in Belmarsh prison, London. His previous 7 birthdays were spent locked away in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

We find some solace in the fact that despite the harsh conditions and spying eyes of the CIA, Julian was still able to find precious love and create a beautiful family while being arbitrarily detained. Despite the cruelty and persecution Julian has suffered, he found happiness in the arms of the love of his life, Stella Moris. That is the strongest form of resistance right there, LOVE.

We gather here to demand an end to his persecution. Not one more birthday should he spend incarcerated. We cannot let them steal his 50’s as well. We cannot allow them to continue keeping this innocent man from his children, from his wife, from his family.
Today we stand together regardless our political sway. We unite to save Julian’s life and bring him home.

See you there.

Come and celebrate Julian’s birthday

SUNDAY 3 July at 1 PM

Flinders Street Railway Station

In front of the clocks. Have some birthday cake, chocolate, drinks. Bring your Guitar if you have one, also any other musical instruments and sing a song.

The 4 July is the day for celebrating the winning of independence in the United States of America. For much of the world it now represents subjugation by what has become a superpower exploiting the world. This is a time to stand together for shared aspirations for freedom, sovereignty, and progress.
